Cat’s Claw 10X Extract Tincture
Our Cat’s Claw 10X Extract Tincture is made from Uncaria tomentosa, the woody vine of the Peruvian Amazon, in UV-resistant amber glass with a calibrated dropper. Each 1 mL serving delivers 100 mg of 10:1 cat’s claw extract, equivalent to 1,000 mg of fresh herb. The 1 oz bottle holds 3,000 mg of extract, or 30,000 mg fresh herb equivalent, across 30 servings, and the 4 oz bottle scales from there.
About Cat’s Claw
Cat’s claw is a high-climbing liana that grows in the rainforests of Peru and neighbouring countries, named for the pair of curved thorns at each leaf node that let it hook its way up a host tree. The inner bark and root have been used in Ashaninka and other Amazonian herbal traditions for generations. It carries a distinctive group of oxindole alkaloids along with quinovic acid glycosides and proanthocyanidins.
It is also a botanical relative of kratom: both Uncaria and Mitragyna sit in the coffee family, Rubiaceae.
Which Cat’s Claw This Is
The common name is shared by more than one plant, and the confusion is worth clearing up. Uncaria tomentosa is the Peruvian vine used in herbal practice, and it is what this tincture is made from. Uncaria guianensis is a closely related South American species sold under the same name. Separately, Dolichandra unguis-cati is an ornamental trumpet-flowered creeper also called “cat’s claw” that is not the herbal material at all. This tincture is Uncaria tomentosa, and that is what the Supplement Facts panel states.
Why a 10:1 Extract
A 10:1 extract concentrates the material from ten grams of herb into every gram of finished extract. That is what lets a 1 mL serving carry the equivalent of a full gram of herb. The two numbers describe the same serving from two directions: 100 mg is the weight of extract you are actually taking, and 1,000 mg is the weight of raw herb it came from. The 30,000 mg on the front of the 1 oz bottle is the fresh herb equivalent for the whole bottle, not a weight of solids in the glass.
Choosing a Size
The 1 oz (30 mL) bottle is 30 servings and the usual starting size. The 4 oz (120 mL) is for people already taking it daily.
Suggested Use
Take 1 mL, and do not exceed 5 mL per day. Shake well before each use. Hold under the tongue briefly before swallowing, or add to water, juice or herbal tea. The calibrated glass dropper lets you measure in fractions of a millilitre rather than being locked to whatever a capsule holds.
Storage
Packaged in UV-resistant amber glass, which keeps light off the extract. Keep the bottle capped at all times and store in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
