About Ashwagandha
Withania somnifera is known in English as winter cherry or Indian ginseng, though it is not botanically related to true ginseng. It belongs to the nightshade family, and it is the root that is traditionally prepared. In Ayurveda it is classed as a rasayana, a rejuvenating tonic, and it is the single most widely used adaptogenic botanical in that tradition.
Its characteristic compounds are the withanolides, a family of naturally occurring steroidal lactones. Withanolide content is the standard measure of an ashwagandha extract’s strength, which is why ours is standardized rather than sold on raw weight alone.
30:1 Potency
A 30:1 extract is concentrated thirty times over the raw botanical. The 100 mg of extract in each 1 mL serving is drawn from 3,000 mg of ashwagandha root, and the full 30 mL bottle represents roughly 90 grams of raw root.
